Why photos come out sideways
Phones usually save the picture in one orientation and add a small tag saying which way up it should be shown. Most apps read the tag, but some websites, email clients and older programs ignore it, so the photo appears sideways. Rotating and saving it with PixOtter writes the pixels the right way round, so it looks right everywhere.
How to rotate or flip an image

Rotate vs flip
Rotating turns the whole picture, like turning a printed photo on a table. Flipping mirrors it, like holding it up to a mirror: text reads backwards and left becomes right. Front-facing phone cameras often save a mirrored selfie, and a horizontal flip puts it back the way other people see you.
Does rotating reduce quality?
Turning by exactly 90° or flipping moves pixels without changing them. Straightening by a small angle has to blend neighbouring pixels, which softens the image very slightly. JPG and WebP files are saved again at high quality, so the change is hard to see.
