Hide faces, number plates, addresses and account numbers before you share an image, with PixOtter's free blur and redact tool. Drag over each area and cover it with a solid black box, pixelation or blur. Because it runs in your browser, the private details you are hiding are never uploaded anywhere.

  1. Add an image. A screenshot, photo or scanned document.

Why use PixOtter's Blur & Redact Image?

  • Three effects: black box, pixelate, blur
  • Multiple areas in one image
  • Nothing uploaded, ideal for sensitive details
  • Free, no sign-up or watermark

Worked example

You want to post a screenshot of a parcel tracking page but it shows your name, address and phone number. Add it, choose Black box and drag over each line. Three drags, Download, done. Check the copy before posting.

For a street photo where a passer-by's face and a car's number plate are visible, choose Pixelate at strength 8 or above and drag over each one.

When people use it

  • Hiding names, addresses and phone numbers in screenshots
  • Covering card, account and booking numbers before sharing proof of payment
  • Blurring faces of children or strangers in photos
  • Covering number plates in dashcam stills and car listings
  • Redacting barcodes and QR codes on tickets and boarding passes

Good to know

Lightly pixelated or blurred text can sometimes be reconstructed, so use the black box for anything sensitive. Areas are rectangles; for irregular shapes, cover them with several boxes. The tool works on images: to redact a PDF, convert its pages to images first.

Blur & Redact Image, frequently asked questions

How do I blur part of a picture?

Add the image, choose Blur, drag over the part you want to hide and download the result. Repeat the drag for each area.

Which effect is safest for passwords or bank details?

The black box. It replaces the pixels completely. Light blur or large-block pixelation of short text can sometimes be guessed, so use a solid box for anything sensitive.

Is my original image changed?

No. PixOtter creates a new, redacted copy for you to download. Keep the original somewhere safe or delete it if you no longer need it.

Can someone un-blur my image?

A solid black box cannot be undone, because the original pixels are replaced. Strong pixelation of faces is hard to reverse; weak blur on short text is the riskiest, so avoid it for sensitive text.

Does the redacted copy keep photo metadata?

No. The new file is created in your browser without the original EXIF data, including GPS location.
