Cut an image down to just the part you need with PixOtter's free image cropper. Drag over the area to keep, or lock it to a square, 4:5, 16:9 or 3:2 shape for profile pictures, Instagram posts and banners. Type exact pixel values when a form asks for them. Your photo is cropped in your browser and never uploaded.

How to crop image online

  1. Add an image. Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP above, or click to browse.
  2. Choose a shape. Free, or a fixed ratio such as 1:1 for a profile picture.
  3. Drag over the area to keep. Fine-tune it with the X, Y, width and height boxes.
  4. Crop and download. The cropped image keeps its original format.

Why use PixOtter's Crop Image?

  • Drag to select with mouse or finger
  • Fixed ratios: 1:1, 4:5, 16:9, 3:2
  • Exact pixel values when you need them
  • Private and free, no upload or watermark

Worked example

A job site wants a square profile photo and yours is a tall 3024 × 4032 phone picture. Add it, choose 1:1 and drag a square around your head and shoulders. The W and H boxes show the size, for example 2400 × 2400. Click Crop image and download. If the site also has a pixel limit, run the result through Resize Image to bring it down to, say, 800 × 800.

For a YouTube thumbnail pick 16:9; for an Instagram portrait post pick 4:5.

When people use it

  • Square profile pictures for LinkedIn, job sites and social media
  • Cutting clutter or other people out of the edge of a photo
  • Making screenshots show only the part that matters
  • Fitting product photos to a marketplace's shape
  • Preparing 16:9 thumbnails and slide images

Good to know

Cropping only removes pixels; it cannot add detail, so a small crop from a large photo looks soft when blown up. JPG and WebP files are saved again at high quality, and the new file does not keep the original's EXIF data such as camera details and GPS location.

Crop Image, frequently asked questions

How do I crop an image for free?

Add your image above, drag over the part you want to keep, then click Crop image and download the result. There is no sign-up and no watermark.

How do I crop a photo into a square?

Choose 1:1 under Aspect ratio, then drag over the part of the photo you want. The selection stays square while you drag.

Does cropping reduce quality?

No. Cropping keeps the pixels you select exactly as they are; it just removes the rest. The file is saved again in the same format.

Can I crop to an exact pixel size?

Yes. Type the X, Y, width and height you need into the boxes under the image.

Does cropping remove location data?

Yes. The cropped copy is created fresh in your browser without the original EXIF metadata.
